Damon...
I agree with your additions.
Belize can offer some wonderful fishing. I have fished there many times starting back in the 60's when it was still British Honduras.
Remember, that they are in the trade winds belt. That means there can be and often are winds of 40 to 50 MPH for days and days on end, from the East.
That was a real problem for us in tarpon fishing out on the banks between Ambergris Key and the mainland because the winds kept the water so roiled up that we couldn't see the fish. After 15 days of fishing in protected waters, we finally got 2 days of fabulous tarpon fishing, as the water clears quickly.....then back came the winds.
Lots of bonefish.......but they are very small. Great snook fishing over at the mangrove creek mouths on the mainland shore...particularly the mouth of the Monkey River and near Punta Placentia. Good permit fishing on the outer island reefs.
Years ago, we took a 2 wk trip on a 38' old tub of a boat, towing skiffs for miles along the coast. On the way to Glover's reef the boat caught fire. We had four 55Gal. drums of raw gasoline on board......that demanded immediate abandonment to our skiffs. The Captain and cook wouldn't leave...and so perished as the thing exploded.
Miraculously, we made it to Belize City by running these tiny pangas to shore in mountainous seas all night long.

Hi Gordy,
I haven't had a chance to read all the other answers in detail, and I'm unsure if this has already been mentioned. I think hauls are also useful in fishing casts such as to ad the extra speed necessary for positive curves and bounce casts or for skipping poppers under limbs with a horizontal cast and the single haul on a roll cast pick up to help keep the fly from ticking.
On another note, I'm heading off to Belize this Sunday for the month of March and will be on Ambergris Caye. I've been there before, but am digging for some "secret spots" that may be wadable off the island in the San Pedro area or some suggestions, other than hiring a guide (which has already been arranged). Any help would be greatful. Thanks.
