This message from Al Crise ..... on the Master (and long term CBOG) who gave the casting portion of the MCCI exam and who passed while casting with his non-dominent hand used for each and every task. Not a single flaw ! :-

Gordie;
Thanks for taking out the time to give me the "test".
I always learn something from you.
One thing I forgot to mention that might be a little teaser for the Study group;
The Haul;
Is there a situation where you make the complete haul before you start the cast?
Also a situation where you make the complete haul during the Cast?
Situation # 1;
Strong back wind; when your back cast doesn't straighten out and "stacks" on you. Leave your rod where you made your stop, make a long haul with your line hand, even down and around you back. Then, with your line hand locked behind you, make your cast with your rod hand.
The haul will remove most of the slack out of the back cast. You can then either false cast one more time to get control, or even in some cases make the final cast.
This is especially handy when you are making a second cast to a Salt Water Fish.
Situation # 2:
You have to make a quick second cast but you have slack in your line. Sometime you have too much line out to roll cast pickup and can use a long haul to first remove the slack from the line prior to making the pick up cast.
Just food for thought;
Thanks;

Al...
Yes, indeed ! Not the date of Tom's message to me ....... Feb., 13, 2005.
Note, also, that Tom was almost never, "not" teaching. He gave us all a bit of good advice even when writing his thank you letter.
As you may know, Tom had done more CCI and MCI exams than any other CBOG member. He was the first Master to actually be put through the exam, years before.
Not a day goes by that I don't think of him and his teachings.
