Yes....I've been saying that for years......
Remember one quote: "Overhang is he barometer for the rate of turnover of the head" from Jason Borger's book..........that statement actually came from Steve. The details are in the chapter on distance casting.
The whole idea is that as the rod leg lengthens during the shoot, the slower the turnover of the loop. Now the loop is only going forward as long as it is unrolling....so delaying that unrolling (turnover) means that it is traveling forward for a longer time.......hence the greater distance....since the length of the rod leg is increased as you have greater overhang. That's true even if you don't shoot line.
