You used a technique
which solved your fishing situational problem. Good show
!
A lesson to be learned,
is that this live line roll casting or, "switch cast" can be used in windy
conditions when the standard, "static" roll cast may not
work.
Another solution is to
use a horizontal rod plane roll cast with the, " D-loop" as a static back cast
loop on the bank behind you when casting from shore. This won't work, of
course, unless you have enough room behind you.

Gordy, just a small comment regarding practical fishing application of
live line roll cast. Just returned from floating the Green River on a
Pontoon Boat below Fontinelle Dam in Wyoming. Mildly stated it was
typically strong gusty Wyoming winds. I was unable and did not try a
seated static roll cast because gusty winds, partically a tailwind,
destroyed a D-loop. Live line and high line speed allowed me to have
reasonable constant control over my line and made roll cast fishing cast
of choice. Winds were 30 to 40 mph (pilot estimation) and it was a nice
contest between my improved casting and mother nature.. It wasn't pretty
casting but I had a good day catching some nice rainbow when every one was
getting off the water. Jerry
