Walter & Group........
Read Peter Minnick's letter to me below my answer. This string gives an idea of the intensity of preparation advised prior to taking the MCI exam. A bit on Tailing Loops in my answer, too.

Peter...
I don't know if we'll be doing testing there in December....but don't see why we couldn't.....as long as time permits and it's OK with Tom. Obviously neither Tom or I could test you since we've both spent time teaching/coaching you.
Sounds as though you are making some good moves toward MCI exam. Good idea to also add Jason Borgers book, "The Nature of Fly Casting".
A motion was made at the CBOG meeting to require MCI candidates to demo and explain 3 different methods of making a tailing loop. Might include, 1.) Spike of power early in the stroke with proper stroke length and rod arc for the amount of line out of the rod, 2.) Creep resulting in a shortened stroke length and rod arc, 3.) Too short a stroke length and rod arc for the amount of line out of the rod tip with no creep, 4.) Less than 180 degrees between back cast line plane and forward cast line plane without changing rod planes (example: High back cast trajectory followed by straight forward horizontal trajectory forward cast), etc.
Of course, the common denominator is that there is concavity of the rod tip path during the stroke for the first 3, and between the back cast and forward cast on the last one.
Bruce Richards brought this up at the 3 hr. MCI workshop at the Conclave.
Remains to be seen if the testing committee approves this addition.....but I'd be ready for it in any event.

Hi Gordy....Hope you had a good trip to Livingston.Do you know if there
is going to be any testing for CCI and Masters at ABBC Dec. 1-8th? I
have 2 students who are CCI candidates signed up and I have been
preparing all along.
I have been going over all your notes ,rereading
Mel,Joan,Gary,Lefty,Ed,past articles of the loop,as well as articles by
Dusty,Bruce,Gordy and White and and the suggested list of questions
covering the 5 topics in the FFF Masters study guide....and teaching
6-10 hrs a week. Also been working on the casting performance task and
the demonstrate and explain...Your guidelines and notes cover most of
what preparation is necessary. Any new things come up at the enclave
that I should be aware of?? Peter
