Here's a neat way to look at STYLE....by MCI Jeff Wagner :-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gordy,
In my workshop on style at the conclave I defined style as:
"anything done during fly and/or fly line delivery that does not effect the
desired outcome of the delivery"
I state it this way because no matter what delivery we choose it can be
executed
in an almost infinite combination of style manipulations.
And it is not just during the "cast". Style can be seen during any
part of the
delivery of the fly and fly line.
Also, I do not include the essentials because casts can be defined by the
adherence or absence of strict adherence to the essentials. In other words I
can define a vertical overhead cast with tight loops by strictly following the
essentials, but can define a tailing loop curve (sorry Gordy "curve mend") by
how this does not follow a straight line path of the rod tip. Or an
underpowered tailing loop curve does not follow the straight line path of the
rod tip and does not have a progressive speed up to a stop. This seems to be
an easier way to deliver the information, at least for me. My "STYLE" of
teaching (that might make another good line of questioning, talk about
different methods different instructors use to deliver information (analogies,
humor, differenet ways of describing the same information, etc. etc.))
