  • "Positive" (overpowered) slack line cast

    Walter & Group.....

As a corollary to our last string of messages on different ways of performing tasks for the, "explain and demonstrate" portion of the MCI exam, I'm reminded of a question asked on one exam by Gary Borger.

The candidate was asked to demonstrate a slack line cast made in a, "positive" way by overpowering the cast.

When he couldn't do it, Gary demonstrated one in which a highly powered cast was made in such a way that the launch angle was high, then the rod tip directed with high speed to direct the rest of the line directly down onto the water.  This stalled the progress of the line above the water which then fell in a nice series of slack line curls. (A technique I'd not seen before.)

Gary was searching for an excellant candidate's depth of knowledge. Since that was not a cast or task listed on the exam it didn't go against the final result......the candidate passed.

I bring that up mainly to prepare you candidates for the possibility that you may well be asked to do casts which are not on the exam list......without having you "fall on your sword" if you can't do them.
