I had an interesting casting challenge, today.
We were staked out for tarpon. The fish required a very long distance cast directly into the wind. Best takes were on a bulky, "fuzzy" fly on a 2/0 hook. We needed long leaders because of a high clear sky.
Problem was that while it was easy to make those long casts, it was difficult to turn over that big wind resistant fly. Often the fly would land right at the end of the fly line. It, then, took several strips to straighten out the leader. By then, the tarpon had gone beyond it, yielding no strike.
We DID figure out a simple solution to the problem.
QUESTION: WHAT WAS OUR SOLUTION ?
