Gordy - My kick at the can. Not in any particular orderGeneral characteristics:- Knowledge of fly casting (and fly fishing) and equipment- Knowledge (and acceptance) of differing casting styles- Experience in diagnosing and correcting casting faults- Ability to tailor explanations to the target audience- Ability to demonstrate excellent form as well as common mistakes- Patience- Perseverance- Does not criticize (or use terms like, "That's good, but...")- Encouraging- A sense of humor- Demonstrates and promotes the goals of the FFF (conservation of resources, comradery, promotion of the sport of angling) and ethical behaviour- Listens well- Learns from others- Knows that he/she does not know everythingWhile teaching:- Organized/prepared/on time- Maintains a relaxed environment in class.- Knows the target audience (e.g. beginner, intermediate, advanced, mixed, age group, etc.)and has a lesson plan suitable for the audience but understands that many students mayover or underestimate their own abilities when signing up for the class- Does not exceed the size of class that he/she can handle- Makes an effort to determine the goals of individual students before starting the class andcan modify, if necessary, the proposed lesson plan to fit the goals of the class- Makes an effort to spend one on one time with students during the class (Jason Borger hasan excellent method of standing in the middle of a circle of students who are practising anexercise. This allows one on one time without excluding the group.)- Don't overdo things for the student. Recognize that they get tired during a class and break upthings to prevent this from happening. This is especially true of beginners or younger studentswho are unlikely to have similar casting stamina to a master instructor- Summarize before and after the class what the content of the class is/was and next stepsthat a student may want to take- Allow questions at any time, make sure you (and other students) understand the question, and provide answers suitable to the class.- Learn to be relaxed and make yourself heard when talking to a group - especially outdoorsCheersWalter----- Original Message -----From: Gordon HillTo: flysoup@xxxxxxxxxx ; sobbobfish@xxxxxxx ; rtab@xxxxxxx ; CAPTPERMIT@xxxxxxx ; creangler@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; dwright@xxxxxxxxxxxx ; daver@xxxxxxxxxx ; dennisg@xxxxxxxxxxxx ; captdoug@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; dsprague01@xxxxxxxxxxx ; ephemera@xxxxxxx ; brushycreekfc@xxxxxxxxx ; keysjake@xxxxxxx ; barefootj@xxxxxxx ; bradyir@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ; flyfishar@xxxxxxxxxxx ; ken.cole@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ; captkirk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; glbaggett@xxxxxxxxx ; mkreider1@xxxxxxx ; martyt@xxxxxxxxxx ; niallogan@xxxxxxxxxx ; pminnick@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ; bigfly@xxxxxxxxx ; whorwood@xxxxxxxxx ; flycasts@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ; sheila@xxxxxxxxxx ; scjacobs@xxxxxxxxxxxx ; cooper@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; tharper@xxxxxxxxxxx ; tomwhite@xxxxxxxxxxxxCc: mildbill@xxxxxxxxxxxx ; caddis@xxxxxxx ; Brydnlnims@xxxxxxxxxxx ; cezannealexander@xxxxxxxxxxx ; crazycharlie@xxxxxxx ; croberts@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; blacksalmon@xxxxxxxxxxx ; DermSox@xxxxxxx ; gladesflybum@xxxxxxxxx ; gavin@xxxxxxxxxxx ; hillshead@xxxxxxx ; iverson@xxxxxxxxx ; jfs523@xxxxxxxxxxx ; jerry_puckett2001@xxxxxxxxx ; kathleen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; thedamselfly@xxxxxxxxxxx ; plami@xxxxxxxxxxx ; ray@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; kerrrc@xxxxxxxxx ; simbirsw@xxxxxxx ; bobbeanblossomFFF@xxxxxxxxxxx ; hillcathy@xxxxxxx ; dnewpher@xxxxxxxxxxxx ; donjack@xxxxxxxxxxx ; douglas.swift@xxxxxxxxxxxx ; erniemaynard@xxxxxxxxxxx ; flyfsfrank@xxxxxxx ; hlpc@xxxxxxx ; jeff@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; jhara.carter@xxxxxxxxxxx ; harveyjl@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ; t.maltese@xxxxxxxxx ; skifishvail@xxxxxxxx ; jfv@xxxxxxxxxxxx ; trallag@xxxxxxx ; captflyrod@xxxxxxx ; mollysemenik@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; paul@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ; fraudflies@xxxxxxx ; shane@xxxxxxxxx ; snowmonkey29@xxxxxxxSent: Wednesday, January 04, 2006 6:01 PMHi, Group....

Question: What do you feel should be the qualities of a good Master Instructor ?
