    I like Jason's list of stances in your attachment..  To these, I'd add one and a couple of considerations :-

    8.) Casting while lying prone.  (NOT a joke.)  Many a wary trout fisherman has made a cast from a position unseen by his quarry while lying prone on a bank or rock.  My father took an occasional bonefish from the prone position on the deck of a flats boat when the cloudless sky was bright and the water glass calm.

    I look at STANCE as partly survival and partly style.  A third way to look at it is to provide a specific fishing opportunity.

    Gordy, I am working on the upcoming Salt Lake City Boat Show and am toying with the idea of covering some safety foundations for the essentials before getting into the essentials such as glasses, hats etc.  I am going to use "stances" with those I am teaching and for those working toward their CCI at this show.  Jerry
