Tom White also talks about using sound as a teaching/learning tool for casting. He listens for a sound that increases (smoothly) during the casting stroke with a pause in between strokes. If the sound is constant during the cast then you
are not accelerating smoothly and/or not pausing at the end of the stroke.

I believe Gordy mentioned something similar in an earlier posting when he
talked about practicing in the dark.

One more reason to avoid rock concerts early in life. :)

    Walter,

Good thought. Sound is an important concept at every distance and can be a

great teaching tool. Hutch Hutchinson a great master from Colorado helped with my distance a few years ago when he compared the noise I was making to cat a distance to noise he made for the same distance. it helped me understand that
I didnt need as much speed and power as I was using. I could be more
    efficient.
