Mark....
Once in a while you get one with a twist that is in the new line. I can't imagine how that happens.......and it is rare.
Box or not, I'd send that line back to Orvis. Not only does it give them needed feedback for their quality control, but they'll probably send you a new line........especially if you include a tactfully worded letter which vents no one's spleen.

Hey Gordy,
I picked up a fly line from Orvis and I've done everything to straighten this @#$% thing out; stretching between nails on the garage wall, pulling on it between hand and hand and hand and foot. I've left it to stretch for a week twice and it's still not much better. I think that some lines are sold with sub-par quality control and I wonder if the 'bad lines' have the same manufacturer. Unfortunately, I tossed my box. Okay, I feel better now... see you in October.
