Walter & Group...
From Lyth Hartz:
Hi Gordy,
Of course!! Thanks so much for the great quiz and thanks for sending the answer. This really captured my attention! Like so many times in fly casting, go back to the basics and the fundamentals (like Mel’s writings) and there are the answers. This was really fun.
Lyth Hartz
P.S. I think this works for learning how to teach too…by doing! Gordy, thanks for providing inspiration.

From Bob Rumpf:
Hi Gordy & group,
As regards; "What am I thinking" type questions being asked during an MCI exam. The first and most important reason this approach is faulty should be obvious. We do not teach style. The reason we don't teach style, is because we are all individuals with different physical attributes. And just as we do not all cast the same, we don't all use the exact same teaching methods. Different teaching methods, used by different instructors, achieve the same positive results. In my humble opinion, waiting for a candidate to respond with the "exact" words the examiner wants to hear is close to ridiculous. We study casting mechanics, not mind reading.
Regards,
Bob Rumpf

Gordy,
These three quotes seem to apply to the current discussion on Teaching and Doing.
Cheers, Jim Phillips
Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect.
“Perfection is not attainable. But if we chase perfection, we can catch excellence.”
“They call it coaching but it is teaching. You do not just tell them…you show them the reasons.”

From Jim Gill:
Gordy, Following this theme there are two important books that had a great impact on the way I coach/teach;
Bounce: How Champions are Made. Mathew Syed; Pub. 4th Estate. ISBN 978-0-00-735052-0
The Talent Code. Daniel Coyne. Arrow Books. ISBN 978-00-99519850.
They are an easy read - and it's all about time and effort one is willing to commit as well practising in an appropriate environment, which the coach provides.
Regards, Jim.

[GH] Jim,
Thanks. I've not read them...... but, with your recommendation, I will.
