     Walter & Group...

[GH]  Despite the fact that the SALT WATER QUICK CAST, (SPEED CAST) is one of the tasks on the MCI exam, I have had no responses from the Group thus far.

If you failed to get my last message entitled, "Quick cast fault yields injury", please let me know and I'll send it again.

    Nothing tricky about my questions.

Let me provide two hints :

         1. All this took place on a day when the wind speed was about 12 knots.  The cast resulting in the ear hook injury was made to fish which were approaching from a quartering up wind position. (Cast made almost directly into the wind.)

         2. Our casting student was rather tense.

In the event some of you are trying to learn more about these casts, allow me to offer some help with a couple of references which I consider very informative and accurate.  *     **   ***

Joan Wulff's FLY CASTING TECHNIQUES, by Joan Wulff, 1987, pp. 209-216.

Joan discusses one efficient method.  The drawings in her book are very clear, explanations concise.
Having had Joan fish with me on my skiff, I can assure you she does this expertly.

Lefty describes in clear terms several different methods of making these casts.  He uses the term, "speed casts". The photos are first class quality pictures of each step. His descriptions are uncomplicated, crisp, and easy to follow.
