[GH] Dayle Mazarella took his Master exam with Pete Greenan as lead examiner. The exam team included Pat Damico and John Hand.

Pat Damico, John Hand and I tested Dayle in Sarasota yesterday. He was beautifully mentored! His casting was as good as his deep understanding of teaching. He is now a great asset of the CICP. More congratulations to the many mentors he has seen.

[GH] One of the first things I do when hosting a Master's exam is to ask the candidate to describe his/her preparations. I've gotten some surprising answers over the years !....
- "I once read a fly casting book by some guy named Mel..."
- " Well, I passed my CCI exam and I didn't think this would be much different..."
- " I do a lot of fly fishing which I figured would get me ready..."
- " I'm just starting to prepare and I thought I'd take the test and see what it's all about..."
- " I haven't read anything, but I've been attending my FFF fishing club meetings for years.."
Some had no idea about the availability of the LOOP . Some knew nothing about the MASTER STUDY GUIDE. Several didn't know about the pamphlets available from the FFF office.
Some candidates hadn't considered working with a mentor.
Some had never attended a conclave or even an FFF Council meeting.
On and on it goes..
SO - I thought I'd present a description of Master preparation which lies way on the other side of this equation.
To that end, I asked Dayle Mazzarella to send us a brief on his efforts to prepare. You will find it in the attachment.
