Walter & Group...
[GH] Eric Cook, as many of you know, is an engineer, MCI. He has sent a message on coupling of curvilinear type translation and rotation with links to detailed mathematical discussion likely beyond the scope of most of us.
In the past we've angered and disappointed some of our members by delving into the depths of physics. Having no wish to do that, I'll leave the strictly scientific and mathematical details out of the main message.
For those interested in these details, I've placed his message complete with links in an attachment.
You have already seen descriptions of the term, "curvilinear". This is to be distinguished from rectilinear motion which he also describes. I have added a dictionary description :
rec·ti·lin·e·ar/ˌrektəˈlinēər/

From Eric Cook:
Gordy,
Mark has raised to the surface some of the points that show the complexity of analyzing the cast mathematically. Mark is correct in the fact that our translation is not rectilinear. We have the coupling of curvilinear type translation and rotation. Take a peek at these youtube videos I found on relative motion, beware there are equations.

[GH] I've received some good answers to the thought provoking questions on Mark Surtees' quiz . I'll await his return before sharing them with the Group.
Meanwhile, we'll look at more entries on "slide loading" and teaching youngsters over the next couple of days.
