    Walter & Group.....

[GH]  I've had many notes of thanks for hooking the Group up with Bob Rumpf as a generous supplier of hard to find fly casting books. His name was misspelled in some of them.  This also occurred in our last message : Books for study 3.  I'm guilty of missing it before sending it out.

A while back, I had sent a message with Bob's name misspelled.  Some of you must have copied my unfortunate misspelling.  The correct spelling is:  BOB RUMPF.

Please check your address book entries to be sure you have the correct spelling.

Bob's email contact address:  Bob Rumpf    caddis@xxxxxxx

    [GH]  From Chuck Easterling :

    Hi Gordy,

Often what is seen on the web is quite interesting and some of it is admittedly ground breaking.  The use of high speed cameras and the ability to post video clips certainly have made many of us re-think certain concepts.

On the other hand,  often  what is on the web has simply given me a greater appreciation of what was written, often a decade or longer ago.   It is amazing what insights Al Kyte, Jim Green and Joan Wulff  had without the benefit of technology and communications that we have today.

In a sense,  what is gained from reading (studying) one of the casting classics is not dissimilar to what happens when we read the book after we have seen a popular movie, we gain a deeper appreciation of what the writer was saying.

    [GH]  Chuck,

    So true !

I recall the day, several years ago, that you sent me copies of numerous fly casting articles written by Al Kyte.  I've archived all of them and I return to them as reference material as I seek background information.  I have also treasured my reading of things written by Jim Green.

Al Kyte's 2008 book continues to reflect his insight.  His concept of purpose changing body motions when casting with simple drawings of Lefty Kreh making both short and long casts is an example.  In Part III, he has a unique approach to problem solving as he teaches the use of "one movement at a time" and then puts it all together as he applies this information to actual fly fishing. *

Then there is TROUT, by Ernie Schwiebert .... a two volume, 1834 page tome.  **

I know of no other books which even come close to providing so much detailed information on the history of fly fishing in North America.  I spent many hours reading this at the IGFA library before my wife presented me with the 1984 edition as a present.

ORVIS GUIDE TO BETTER FLY CASTING a problem solving approach, by Al Kyte, 2008, pp. 66, 107-150.

    **  TROUT by Ernest Schwiebert, 1978, 1984.

    [GH]  From Jerry Puckett,

    Gordy,

I am in the University of Utah Library.  The two books in my back pack are "Presentation" and "The Nature of Fly" by the Borgers.   Also many e-mails from our group.

As time progresses I realize how fortunate I am.  Almost a decade ago I took a four day course at West Yellowstone with Gary and Jason.  It set my fly fishing passion on fire and it burns brightly to this day.  The other experience of equal impact was my time with you and Sir Tom White in the keys,  And your e-mails and group response is priceless.

Just want to say thanks to all concerned who make this group a sterling classroom.  And to you Sir Gordy, you have been writing your book all along on this e-mail group.  You have made a deep and lasting impact on those who love our sport.  Thank you Dr. Gordy!
