Walter & Group...
[GH] I am surprised in not receiving more answers to Michael Jones's list of questions. Below are two answer messages. Michael has also answered his own questions; but I thought I'd share his after hopefully receiving more of your answers.
Can it be that most don't feel strongly one way or the other ?

[GH] Gary Eaton answers Michael Jones' questions :
Five simple short answer questions for the group: Your answers are based on your impressions as a MCI exam candidate.
1. Are any 2 MCI oral exams ever the same?
NO
2. Does that favor the candidate?
NO
3. Does that favor the examiner?
NO
4. Would you (personally) favor a comprehensive written exam for the MCI test over an oral exam (followed by the practical casting component as it stands)?
YES
5. How would that change the exam for you (personally)?
LESS SUBJECTIVE
FURTHER -The entire performance test needs to be presented to the CCIs
- line layout diagrams in a "GO"- "NO GO" gauge format.
- Production quality digital video of performance nuances for each task
- Study guide for written exam prepared by CBOG
- Mock exam clinics sponsored by the CICP

5. How would that change the exam for you (personally)? . I believe I would approach the test better prepared and with more confidence of passing.
I believe as a MCI candidate (looking for a mentor) I would have more confidence in a Master who had passed a rigorous written test vs. someone who had passed with an oral test. That to me is the bottom line.

[GH] From Jim Bass. (As you may know, he and Gary Davison have taken over Al Crise's CCI study Group after we lost Al ):
Gordy
Gary and I were privileged to be involved with Al at his Hawk Ridge Fly Casting School. We have used his format when we hold a clinic in North Texas. Our first day is do classroom for hour then out to the casting field for an hour. We recap at the end of the day. The second day we cover the CCI subjects early. Then one of the instructors goes through the test demonstrating the cast the task call for. After lunch we have two of our CCI's act as examiners where the give the test to all people who want to participate. If we have 8 people then one performs the first task and another the second and continue until all have had one task then we start over until all task have been perform. The students get a chance to feel the pressure of the test yet learn at the same time.
I had the availability of Al but we do not have Al now. If there is someone who wants a walk through one of our CCI will watch as the candidates goes through the test. I think if some wants to be a CCI they need to understand it is a journey and you do not just go take the test and start from there.
