    Walter & Group...

[GH]  Attached is a message from Bernd Ziesche on the Switch Cast.  Please note the casting video. Some of you may see fit to save this under Task 7.

[GH]  Continuing with Task 10.  This from Ally Gowans :
    Hi Gordy,

A brief description of a Double Spey would be to move the fly from the dangle upstream to a position 1 to 1.5 rod lengths downstream from the caster then reverse the swing around the outside without incurring slack line (dropping line onto the surface) to form a D loop and complete as in a Roll cast. In essence this cast is just a Roll cast preceded by a bit of preparation.

In practice it is not possible to align the leader and fly with the intended casting direction until after the D loop has been tensioned and sometimes it is not possible at all to achieve this at all. Nor is there any stop during formation of the D loop because that will produce slack line. The rod tip must spiral out, up and around to maintain tension.

Note that the cast can be made with the rod maintained at a fairly high attitude which is very useful for fishing sinking lines since it keeps a lot of line out of the water and often dispenses with the need for a preparatory Roll cast.

    Best wishes,
    Ally Gowans

    [GH] Ally,

That way of describing the movements is helpful to me.  Hopefully, it will paint a picture for others.
