    Walter & Group...

[GH]  Attached, please note a late entry for Task 11 from Paul Arden.

[GH]  Gary Eaton leads off with a "hint" for task 12 :

    Gordy,

In my view, the biggest "hint" on this task is to "drift" into the forward cast as well as the back cast.

Biggest hint to avoid tailing loops, generally, is to delay rotation to as late in the stroke as possible.

I credit Bruce Richards for highlighting these concepts during my study.

To make the double-haul appear "Classic", aim back casts as high as possible (Ritz "High Line') and wait to reverse direction until the "candy cane" appears in the line (not leader). Of course the haul needs to begin after the rod is loaded, and the haul stops as the rod STOP occurs.

    Gary,

Delaying rotation has also been shown to help yield tight loops whether hauling or not.  When Bruce Richards pointed that out to me, I didn't really see how that could be.  After spending time casting that way, however, I have to agree with him.

My present thoughts on Task 12 :-

    # I think this one is really a CCI level task.

    # Only one distance is specified.  That leaves no room to judge the candidate's ability to match the length of the hauls to the casting distance.

    # Under the reasons for failure, no mention is made of one very common hauling fault; that of feeding slack into the system when giving back line.  (Incorrect haul timing is stated as a reason for failure. That is a related fault but not exactly the same thing).

I'm sure the MCI Testing Committee has already addressed most of these concerns.

    Gordy
