    Walter & Group....

    Gordy,

Currently pursuing monster rainbows in a inland mid-western strip pit.  The only reference on still water trout fly fishing I have is some writings by a English fellow named Charles Jardine.  He mentions catching rake.  What is a rake?  Would loch style fishing work here in US?

Anyone with any experiences of large reservoir fly fishing for trout want to share techniques?

    Don...

I don't know what a "rake" might be.

Some of our members will have far more to say about LOCH fishing as they will probably have more experienc than I with this kind of fishing.

Hopefully, some will share actual experiences, tips and tactics.

    Some reading material :

Charles Jardine has served on our FFF Casting Board of Governors.  He is author of The Classic Guide To FLY - FISHING For Trout, 1991, ISBN 0-394-58719-7.  I have my copy befor me as I write.

Charles has devoted 19 well written pages to two kinds of stillwater venues:   "Small Stillwater" and "Reservoir" fishing for trout, starting with STILLWATER TACTICS.  His text is clear.  The photos and diagramatic representations suberb.
    Check out pp. 192 - 209.

To learn more about stillwater, it pays to read pp. 69 - 78 on Lake Systems in  Gary Borger's, PRESENTATION, 1995, ISBN  0-9628392-5-6.

Ernest Schwiebert has devoted pp. 1522 - 1530 of his TROUT, VOL. II, 1978, ISBN 0-525-24269-4 to FIELD PROBLEMS IN FISHING LAKES, PONDS, AND RESERVOIRS.  This is written in conversational style.

Also lots of information on stillwater fishing on the FLY FISHERMAN - Still water Fly Fishing Forum  (By Fly Fisherman Magazine) .... use your search engine to surf this.

    This will get you started.

Perhaps some of our other members will help with more information on fishing stillwater including lakes, ponds, impoundments, reservoirs and lochs.

Someone may know what a RAKE is.
