    Walter & Group...

    From Ally Gowans :

    Hi Gordy,

Some excellent answers so far! Knowing where the noise is generated, particularly knowing which part of a rod causes the turbulence heard is very useful. Any comments on the relative speed of the rod butt and tip during a cast?  Re hearing the ?splash down? of a Spey type cast, I would recognise this generally as a fault unless its done intentionally for any reason.

    Best wishes,

    Ally Gowans

    Ally,

I doubt I could make any decisions on the relative speeds of the rod butt and tip by the sounds made.  Perhaps others can.

I can't really hear the Spey splash down unless there is no wind and all is quiet.  Perhaps my "splash down" isn't perfect !

    From Craig Buckbee :

i believe it was Al Buhr that suggested that i practice casting sans yarn-fly ... a sure way to hear an ineffective pause.

Craig:  Interesting point.  Perhaps Al will expand on this for us.
