    Walter & Group...

    From Kirk Eberhard:

    Hi Gordy,
Has isolating the haul been discussed? Minimizing use of the rod hand while practicing/honing hauling skills. After hauls are efficient, add the rod hand.

Kirk...   This has not been discussed.  Frankly, I hadn't thought of that.  What most do when practicing for distance is to become as efficient as possible without using the haul and then add the haul later.... so that would be isolating the basic cast ... just the opposite.

One might isolate the haul as you describe.....   Another way which might help is to gain an easy distance... say no more than 60' to a target.  Gain perfection without the haul, then add the haul. Carrying the same amount of line, one could then cast in the same manner with the rod hand while tweaking the haul repeatedly until best results are achieved.  This is just an idea.... I have not actually done that.

This fits with Lefty's word picture of using the line hand haul as the accelerator.
