    Walter & Group...

    From Bob Rumph...

    Hi Gordy & Group,                                                   (See attachment 2.)

    I recently sent a message to Gordy using my angling book business stationery. The little animated fly caster above was included with that message. Gordy being ever the instructor with the thoroughly ingrained habit of studying every cast he watches naturally had to critique the little fellow. I should, in all fairness, also mention that in a message to Tony Loader, Tony also found fault with the little guy. I am now seriously concerned that our group studies may be creating casting essentials geeks.

    I would reply to all this by adding another little caster to the mix. I find this little gentleman to either have an unbelievably fast and efficient stroke I wish I could mimic, but I'mquite  sure it would be difficult to get it past MCI examiners.

                                                                                                                                                        (See attachment 3.)
    Regards,

    Bob Rumpf

    Check out the little "casters" and give us your brief critiques.  They will appear in attachments 2 and 3.    Gordy

    From Denise Maxwell:

    Hi Gordy,

    I’ve attached the Forbes article on Tom Morgan that Molly mentioned.

    Tom is an amazing guy and an inspiration to all of us.  Please share the article if you think it would be useful.

    I too have known Tom for many years and in fact, he taught me to row a drift boat on the Bulkley River.

    Denise,

    Thanks.  In turn, I have it as the first attachment to this Group message.

    I'm excited to hear that you already have a response from our Group members to your request.  This will add another dimension to the teaching capacity of our LOOP !

    From John Bilotta (On Denise's idea of sending links to video casting for the LOOP) :

     Gordy,

     This is very good idea and I will follow up with them.

     I think we might also want to consider having the performance tests done in sections or chapters so that you can watch how a test is conducted. What I am remembering is how much I learned watching you and Dusty demonstrate the CCI exam last spring when I tested in Florida. To me that is just another element of part of an instructor study guide.

    John ...   We gave that workshop at the Florida Council meeting last year at Lakeland.  Dusty Sprague took the part of the CCI candidate and I the examiner.

    Dusty's casting (as expected) was flawless as we went through the entire performance exam.  Had we videoed this, it would have been a great source of information for upcoming CCI candidates.  Of course, this could be done with the casting portion of the MCCI exam, as well.

    We ended on a humerous note when I decided to "flunk" him because of the outrageous color of his shirt !

    From David Olson :

    Gordy ,

    I still enjoy pulling out some of the old " battlewagon " glass rods

    for saltwater , a Scientific Anglers " Great Equalizer " , a Fenwick

    Tarpon I "insert butt " rod with insertable stiffener butt section ,

    and a few other Fenwick 11 - 12 wt. rods : FF109 , FF117 ,FF9012 , etc

    . Not pleasurable to cast all day , but as you say , indestructable and

    great fish fighters . They also make you appreciate all the advances

    from a weight and casting standpoint of the modern sticks , as well as

    appreciate what the pioneers of the sport dealt with .

    David Olson

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    David ...   My first fly caught tarpon was with that big yellow # 12 Fenwick Tarpon rod.  I was so excited I forgot to insert the "stiffener".  Took forever to subdue the critter.  Hooked him just South of the Marquesas Islands, West of Key West.  My reel was a Gar Wood designed #3 Fin-Nor. (Now a collectors item.)
    Life can take our health and wealth, but not our memories !
