    Hey Gordy,

While I think you definitely have the makings of a great storyteller I'm sure everyone has their
share of stories whether it be for tarpon or trout or we even have a local story about the guy who
successfully landed a skunk without being sprayed!

Perhaps a collection of short stories from variouos authors to be sold through the FFF or with
proceeds (assuming there are some) going to some charitable group or groups involved in
    fly fishing?

We could let the study group vote on which ones would be included in the publication. Might
make a nice break from serious study for some.

    Cheers

    Walter

    Walter & Group........

As you can guess, we are deep into tarpon thoughts right now.  POONS ON THE BRAIN.

Here is a message from Rene Hesse:

Please don't stop the tarpon 'stories' nor the tarpon 'lessons'.  I'll be down next week and want to learn more than I'm getting in books.

ps. can you name a fly that I should tie for next week in the keys?

    Rene

My answer (already sent to him) went something like this :-

    Rene....

Most of our flies are those we tie.  Names you would not recognize nor in any book or shop.

If I had only one fly to use, it would be a simple 2" to 2 1/2" long blaze orange one tied on a Gamakatzu 15 SC  # 1 or #1/0 or an Owner 2/0 AKI hook depending on the depth I wanted it to run.  No collar. Just orange hackles tied outwardly splayed.

We've done well, this year, on simple  1 1/2" long red worm flies on Gamakatzu # 1 or # 1/0 hooks .... even when the worms.

     were not present.

One of our, "standby" flies is the Estaz fly in chartruese.  Head of Estaz, tail of fly fur ( or fish fur).  Same hooks.

You have probably read of the, "Tarpom Toad"..... it works fine, too.

Old tried and true flies include the, "Cockroach".

Rabbit strip flies work well on laid up fish.
