    Walter & Group.........

Jim Valle's comments on Al Crise's message re working with Lefty:-

    Gordy

    Great email!

Based on the time you and I spent with Lefty, You really put all this in perspective and I couldn’t agree more.

As I have said before the more we UNDERSTAND the more we find the SIMILARITIES.

Just minutes ago I was asked to participate in a Healing Waters session the NEC is holding June 9 and having volunteered to work with Ol Al and others on finding solutions for the physically challenged… We are on the right path of applying ALL OUR KNOWLEDGE to finding solutions for casters. Al is right in seeking every bit of knowledge and any style or method we can find. The underlying physics of the cast are all there and we can find them if we continue to learn!

    Understanding is the key!

From Jerry Puckett (MCCI Candidate) :-

    Gordy;

Assuming that one has read most of the books on the Master List we have, have veiwed the videos from the Master teachers and in general have done a good job of preparing for the
Masters test, How would you suggest spending the last two months in preperation for the Masters test?

    Thanks, Jerry Puckett

    Jerry...

By now, you either know the material or you don't.

Time to organize your way of answering questions and of organizing your casting task algorithms.

For the Oral portion of the exam, I'd consider posing practice questions and preparing two different answers to each one:

1.) A SHORT ANSWER (BRIEF AS POSSIBLE) .

     2.) A MORE DETAILED ANSWER.

Cover all of the 5 major topics listed in the MCCI Study Guide.

Even the more detailed answer should avoid rambling, stick to the meat of the topic, and answer your question with a crisp but complete answer which gets right to the point.

For the Performance part of the exam:

1.) CAST AT LEAST A FEW MINUTES EVERY DAY.  PERFORM MANY IF NOT ALL OF YOUR CASTS UNDER DIFFERENT WIND CONDITIONS AND DIRECTIONS. (THAT WAY, YOU WILL BE READY FOR WHATEVER WEATHER CIRCUMSTANCE PRESENTS AT YOUR TEST.)

2.) CAST WITH A PURPOSE IN MIND WITH EACH AND EVERY CAST.

          A. BE VERY CRITICAL OF EACH CAST INCLUDING YOU BACK CAST LOOPS.

          B. AS YOU MAKE YOUR MENDS, DO SO AROUND A TARGET.  MAKE SURE THERE IS AN OBVIOUS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR LARGE MENDS AND YOUR SMALL MENDS.  NOTHING, "IFFY"

          C. AS YOU MAKE YOUR ACCURACY CASTS, CONSIDER TEACHING PARAMETERS SUCH AS THE MAIN DIFFERENCES YOU WOULD TEACH A STUDENT BETWEEN THE CLOSE AND THE DISTANT TARGETS:

---CHANGE OF TRAJECTORY  -  CHANGE OF ROD LOAD (APPLICATION OF POWER)  -  CHANGE OF STROKE LENGTH, ETC.

         D. ON YOUR DISTANCE CASTS, GET INTO THE HABIT OF CRITIQUING EACH OF YOUR BACK CASTS.

         E.  IN PRACTICING YOUR LOOPS, BE SURE YOU CAN MAKE EACH ONE SLOWLY SO A STUDENT COULD EASILY SEE IT.  ALSO BE ABLE TO MAKE THESE LOOPS WITH HIGH LINE SPEED.

3.) ORGANIZE YOUR TASK PRESENTATIONS SO YOU KNOW THEM PERFECTLY.  AS YOU GO THROUGH EACH PRESENTATION, SPEAK ALOUD AS THOUGH YOU WERE TEACHING (EVEN IF THERE IS NO ONE TO HEAR...... EVEN BETTER IF THERE IS SOMEONE WHO CAN LISTEN.... BEST IF YOU DO SO WITH A , "STUDY-BUDDY".)  THIS MAY INCLUDE:

         A.  STATEMENT OF PROBLEM OR TASK.

         B.  SOLUTION ( OR LIST OF SOLUTIONS) .

    4)  PRACTICE MAKING AS MANY WELL RECOGNIZED FAULTS AS YOU CAN AS WELL AS THE VARIOUS MEANS OF CORRECTING THEM.

AS YOU DO THIS, THINK :   PROBLEM          CAUSE        CORRECTION

AS YOU MAKE EACH FAULT, CONSIDER WHAT YOUR HAND DID TO MAKE THE ROD DO WHAT IT DID TO MAKE THE LINE DO WHAT IT DID.

USE THIS AS THE BACKGROUND TO PRACTICE BRUCE RICHARDS' 6 STEP METHOD FOR MAKING THE DIAGNOSIS AND CORRECTION FOR EACH OF THESE PROBLEMS.

PRACTICE YOUR OWN LIST OF CHANGE OF DIRECTION CASTS, YOUR LIST OF WAYS OF HANDLING WINDS FROM VARIOUS DIRECTIONS, YOUR VARIOUS METHODS OF MAKING CURVE CASTS, ETC. SO THAT YOUR PRESENTATIONS ARE WELL ORGANIZED .

    MAKE IT FUN !
