    Walter & Group........

From Rick Whorwood (THCI) on Spey practice.  His answers to my questions in bold blue italics:-

    Rick....

    Note the Group messages, below.

Will you give us your input as to the value of Spey practice ?:

1.) On grass, "Yes use a grass leader or peg the line, it's a good way to learn the lift, sweep and rise".

2.) On grass with a, "grass leader". "They work fine if tyed properly, use a stiff mono 20lb(maxima)"

3.) On still water (such as a pond), "great to practice on, but remember slack is our enemy, make sure it's removed before each and every cast".

4.) On moving water (river). The best !!

Gordy: the biggest problem every student has is watching every Spey movement, this is all about timing, pick a target (tree, rock etc.) and forget about it, it will be there when you make the forward cast, YOU NEED TO WATCH EVERY SPEY MOVEMENT !!! I can't stress this enough !
When you need to straighten the line etc. take your time to do properly, built good muscle memory, so often I'll see a student try to roll out the line without forming a D Loop, it doesn't work !!
