Walter & Group..........
From Jim Valle (who does this cast very well.) :-
Gordy and
Group,
As I read this text I
had a bit of a different perception of the question. Maybe this will
help.
First, my first
impression was that a “wrist flip” type curve was being described…. As the wrist
was involved…a mend type move was added to the cast… (if I understood it
correctly) That as Gordy described is a different cast
The FEEL of a “cork
screw” is not in the wrist…
it is in the tip or the rod (actually the whole rod is rotated but it is the tip
movement that makes the cast) …more like the entire forearm making the rod and
rod tip move in a circular motion thus making the cast. (And like a snake roll
in spey… where the acceleration is placed within the circle will have an
effect on the final shape of the cast.)
When doing these casts
I find the size of the rod tip circles is important … making the circles the
size of a basketball seems to create more effect.
I would also add that
starting in an off-vertical plane for either direction makes it a lot easier as
the rotation starts early in the casting sequence …. This I think has to do with
the “Momentum” of the cast….
Something I am sensing more and more…
Hope this
helps,
Jim
