From Mark Kreider (On Chris Dore's uncoordinated student trying to learn the double haul) :-
Hi Gordy,
In the comments regarding this student I don't know if they
tried switching rod hands. It might use a bit different part of the
brain? Another idea. Where he was keeping his hauling hand static
and using it as a 'switch' I wonder if having his foot on the line as the
'switch' might work better as his leg/foot might have different wiring than his
arm/hand.

Now this is a good example of thinking outside the box when teaching fly casting to handicapped students !
Certainly worth a try.

When studying various casts, mends, and techniques such as the use of single and double hauls, Tom White taught that the well prepared MCCI candidate will not only be able to perform the tasks at a high level, but will be conversant with:
1.) The practical (and teaching) uses for the task.
2.) The advantages and disadvantages of the cast (task or technique).
3.) Several ways of teaching it.
4.) Alternatives to the task.
5.) The most common problems students may have when trying to learn it.
6.) The causes and corrections of these problems.
Using this outline as an algorithm for study as the candidate goes through each and every task on the MCCI casting part of the exam will be a valuable exercise !
Using the information you have gotten from these various messages on teaching the double haul, try to go through 1.) - 6.) in detail for your own benefit.
