  • Study depicting movement of the fly rod during the cast at 500 FPS

    Walter & group.........

Jason Borger sent this fascinating European study.  (You will need Adobe Reader to access the link.)

Gordy--A little article that some in the group have been asking about is now available in English after a year (see link). The FCI E-Library (where this article is hosted) will be publishing more of this type of article, plus older out-of-print articles, over the fall/winter. Stay tuned, as they say...

This graphically depicts what the rod is doing during the cast.  Helps to show that most of the input comes from the casters movement primarily and much less from the energy released to the fly line as the bent (loaded) fly rod straightens.

Just the opposite for the classic, "bow-and-arrow-cast" !

At 500 frames per second, this dramatizes the, "stop" as actually being stepwise negative acceleration.

Some of us are about to do a study on the true relationship between the rod tip at RSP and the start of loop formation using high speed video techniques.
