    Hi Gordy,
As well as(or also) increasing the rod arc, one could also consider increasing the stroke length

    Liam...

    Right you are !

One of the reasons I used the term, "rod arc" is that it may end up being worded that way on the MCCI exam .  Once passed by the Board, copies of this will be available to candidates.

Increase in TIP TRAVEL would also be true, since tip travel may be considered as the product of both rod arc and casting stroke.

I think that one reason the MCCI Testing Committee worded the task that way is due to the observation that while the casting stroke can be seen as combining a degree of translation with rotatory motion, the latter representing rod arc as yielding an angular change in the position of the butt section of the rod from the begining to the end of the cast.

This angular change (rod arc) yields far more travel to the rod tip and by far most of the acceleration of the tip and so would be much more important in terms of what happens with application of power.

Therefore, while increasing stroke length is one way of solving that type of tail, the increase of rod arc becomes of greater importance.
