Question from Scott Swartz (MCCI ... Atlanta Fly Fishing School) .
Scott is asking for information on exactly what is involved in determining, not
the size, but the SHAPE of the loop. We discussed theories at the School
earlier this month, but did not come to a definite conclusion.
My take (and I can't prove it) is that the caster can form a small loop
pointed at the top by a momentary upward and outward (toward the target)
thrust of the rod at exactly the correct point in time.
My thought was that this may be performed immediately following RSP as the rod
starts to go in to counterflex. I'm not certain about that. Then
there is the question of whether there really is an aereal, "lift" when we do
achieve that pointed loop (?????)
Gordy,
Deep thoughts is certainly an
appropriate title for the recent flury of e-mails. I have found
it facinating, informative, intreaging, and frustrating all at the same
time. There have been moments I think I have "got it" and the next moment I'm
dangeling by a thread. I've decided I need to just go fishing after all
this input.
Would you have interest in posing the
leading edge loop shape cause and effect question to the group that you,
Peter and I played with at Atlanta Fly Fishing School? I would be
very interested in learning more of what casuses the round vs. pointed vs. high
pointed (airplane wing with lift effect) types of
leading edges of loops. I thought I had a handle on it but cannot
seem to reproduce my results.
Best,
Scott Swartz
Do any of you in the
Group have a better answer than mine ? ...... Let's hear it
!
