    Walter & Group.....

    From Lou Bruno:-

    Gordy,

I’ve been reading the different comments about Tension from the group and I am reminded of what Joan stated about “constant pressure timing” I think what she stated relates to what we are discussing. She calls it “constant pressure” Joan states,

“a feeling of the line on the rod tip, through every inch of the cast, and instant recognition of its loss.” Page 55 – Fly casting Techniques.

Note that phrase, "....... and instant recognition of its loss."

Joan has stated that very well.  It isn't really different from what Ally noted when he called attention to the momentary sense of lack of tension at the conclusion of the back cast as the caster starts to drift back.

This morning I purposely paid close attention to this and found that when I cast slowly with less loop speed, that the instantaneous loss of sense of tension was not as obvious as when I used high loop speed and shot line back and then drifted.

Seems that the greater the difference between the velocity of the rod tip and that of the rod leg of the loop, the greater would be the sense of tension during back drift.

I guess there would always be a difference, because the velocity of that rod leg will be somewhere between 20 and 80 M/sec. whereas I doubt I can move the rod tip that fast on a back drift.

Obviously, if I could move the rod tip back faster than the rod leg of the loop travelled, I'd lose a sense of tension altogether.
