  • RE: FW: loops

    ol Al...

Jerry did very well on that question on Tailing loops.

I'd add that on #5.),  the too powerful haul will only produce a tail if done too soon during the casting stroke.

Joan Wulff adds one, too :  "Lack of a loading move when one is needed."

Then we have the tailing loops described in Mac Brown's book, CASTING ANGLES, in his, "box diagrams".  One of these is common......a high trajectory (line plane) back cast followed by a high or level trajectory forward cast.  What he fails to say, however, that this will only occur if the rod plane doesn't change between strokes.

The latter is an example of a concavity BETWEEN STROKES.   All the others share a common denominator:-

They all yield a concave rod tip path as the penultimate reason for the tail.

Concavity is the bottom line no matter how you slice it.

Tell me 3 ways to form a tailing loop?

     This from Jerry.
1- Improper application of power during the casting stroke, starting fast and ending slow  which causes a concave path of the rod tip or (failure to load the rod properly with a smooth accelarated stroke)

2- to short a stroke for the amount of line carried.

3- a concave path of the rod tip during the casting stroke cause by starting low and ending high.

4- Carrying to much overhang on the forward and backcast, line cannot unroll in the amount time availaable.

5- excessive haul or overpowered haul.

I am thinking the best I can with what little I have to think with.  Jerry
