I agree. There is some momentum, however, with the distance bow & arrow cast. Jason Borger, in his book, "THE NATURE OF FLY CASTING" uses 2 names for this: 1. Extended bow & Arrow Cast and, 2. "bow & arrow roll". (p. 250)

From Walter:
I've never liked the bow and arrow analogy. For one thing the arrow has no momentum
prior to its release. Fly line does. The faster the fly line is moving the more
momentum it has and this contributes to the cast. If you perform a bow and arrow
cast the distance you can get is limited. Get the line moving and bend the rod
exactly the same amount as in the bow and arrow cast and you get a lot more distance
in the cast. So, how fast you load the rod has significance, because this contributes
directly to line speed. The issues are whether you are able to continue to load the
rod AND maintain slp AND when do you run out of arm.
