Jerry on STYLE. My brief comments in red in his text, followed by an
answer on, "bad" styles below his message:-
Dear Gordy:
Can a case be made for bad styles verse good styles? MY ANSWER, BELOW YOURS.
Regarding Al Kytes term, "Self optimization" as a frame of reference How
close is this statement to capturing the meaning of the term style?
VERY CLOSE !
"Based on sound casting essentials "Style" is the unique personal and
physical way in which h/she executes a controlled and relaxed
cast." ANOTHER GOOD WAY TO PUT
IT.
"Efficiency in "Style" involves the minimum amount of physical input for
the maximum amount of rod and line delivery." ONE MORE ATTRIBUTE OF A, "GOOD STYLE".
I am trying to be concise and hope in doing so this does not come across as
being to simplistic. CONCISE AND SIMPLISTIC IS
GOOD FOR EXAM TAKING. ALWAYS BE PREPARED, HOWEVER, TO GO IN TO DETAIL WHEN
ASKED.......NOT BEFORE.
Thanks, Jerry Puckett

You bet ! I look at a, "BAD STYLE" as one which doesn't meet it's
objective. One which doesn't allow the caster to achieve the layout,
distance or presentation desired. Also, one which is painful,
uncomfortable or dangerous to him/her. One could go on and add that a
style which jeopordizes the tackle (such as leading to danger of rod breakage)
would be, "bad".
A style of stance which employs foot position which doesn't lend itself
safely to the particular river conditions at hand would be a bad one.
A style which violates one or more of the essentials may well be a, "bad"
one.
A style which is fine for one set of fishing conditions, may well be, "bad"
for other conditions......on and on, scubeee-do
!
