    Walter & Group....

Messages like these demonstrate the committment to teaching fly casting that makes not just MCI's, but GREAT Master Instructors.  Both Jerry and Al reflect these qualities along with their tireless enthusiasm.

    Al,
I don't know if the B.O.G's tuned in to my comments at the meeting nor are they still.  In preparation for the Masters I have decided that I am going to write"My Take On Teaching-- A Workbook for Casting Certification."  I have spent my life teaching with a deep involvement in track, tennis, basketball, golf, scuba dividing and volley ball.  I know that every human being is unique so my teaching will be very different from the "my way or the Highway" style that is common; it will be geared toward providing effective instruction to help one begin the journey of discovery of self signature with their casting--finding the style that natural flows for them!

The book will obviously reflect who I am, where I have been and how casting has helped me in my cancer recovery.  But more than that I want it to be a resource when, after having studied it, one would have a reasonable chance of passing the written.  The message will be that this is a dedicated journey that takes time and instruction from quality teachers.  In other words, exciting, challenging, disciplined, old fashion hard work and fun!

It will be mostly about teaching since nothing has been written regarding the nature of teaching.  Notice I do not say how too teach; that is only a small part, as are our bag of tricks.  How does one become a truly effective teacher?  Teaching is only a small part of becoming a full, caring, complete, growing and maturing human on this planet, one who knows their place and has developed the flowing give back spirit which is at the heart of teaching.  I know of no better example than you Sir Al.  You embody the best of life and the givers heart is always present in you.  Can one be a truly effective teacher-- other than robotic and mechanical-- with out the caring heart?

I have a long line of teaching experiences that should help.  There are so many more capable folk who should have done sometime for those wanting certification in terms of substantive and concrete help, something we can hand a student and say this will help you launch a successful journey.  This will be aimed at providing all the learning resources available from our most excellent FFF Certification program.

I am tire of waiting so bingo,"My Take On Teaching. " I am enclosing  a piece I wrote entitled "When We Meet" that gives you some idea of how I think regarding teaching and some of this may make it's way into the book.  I want this book to inspire and help people want to better people as well as a teacher, for me they are inseperable.  Dr. Gordon Hill is a perfect example.  We all have our heros, Tom, Gordy gees now that I think it, about everyone in this casting certification program are my heros!

So Al, maybe it is my time at 65 to see if this is one of the reasons God let me live through prostate cancer.

I know what I need to do and what I want to do so do do time!  I promise I will try to keep the sick part of my mind out of the book!  Can you think of a better way to prepare for the Masters and tie is all together?

Just so you will know you are very much appreciated for your gifts to life!

    Your friend,

    Jerry

    WOW
Big bunches of flowers and wallpaper in that last Email

    Thanks.
I have felt that we all need as much training and chance to exchange ideas. With out Gordy's help I would never get the Masters test passed.
There are places like Golden Gate that you can go to and learn a lot from the best. You and I that would be hard.

    Thanks
