Howdy Gordy and Dr.
Shigley
I
feel that Dr, Shigley is hauling way to soon to have that much torque on the rod
and putting in that much effort.
Second part of this is the overlineing of a rod. Chuck
Eaterling uses a 8 wt line on a 5 wt. rod. This he uses to let the load be
felt when teaching. It was a trick to get it to work for sure. As for using
the XXD line you do have to allow for the added weight of the line when you get
50+ ft out of the rod guides, With better timing the thickness of the rod's
lower section will most often handle this weight.
I have not broken a rod yet with too heavy a line. I can
put some pressure on a rod.
