Hi, Gav.....
Glad to have you back!
These are NOT questions I'd expect on a Master's exam. They are great training questions, however, such as we might use in our prep courses. The idea is to have the quiz tough enough that no one is likely to be able to answer all the questions without doing some research.
It helps teach the candidate how to efficiently look up material of all kinds. Those who do this, develop better study habits and do much better on the orals with all sorts of questions. (You can't look up a lot of material like this without learning many other things, too.)
It also encourages the candidate to do what Gary Borger advised me to do years ago when I contacted him for advice on the best way to prepare for the orals..........build a fly casting reference library of your own and do as much reading and looking up topics of interest as you can.
That's especially important for candidates who don't have the opportunity to take a prep course, and those who don't have a CBOG "mentor" or other Master instructors to consult.

Hi Gordy,
Boy , I need a life preserver .
Read the first questions and slumped in the chair at what I?d missed.
Thank goodness for your last paragraph encouraging me and giving me time to research the questions.
It?s fun to be back, now where did I leave that Joan Wulff video.
Cheers,
Gav

Hi, Gavin....
Turns out I had goofed in entering you ! My apologies.
Lately, we've had a string of info on rod blank splines (spines).
The general consensus was that in the past, this was caused by an overlap edge of cloth in manufacture, and was a significant problem. Now, almost all blank manufacturers come close to eliminating this so it's not enough to really cause enough variation in accuracy or distance that we mere mortals can truly tell the difference.
Here's the latest little, "quiz" I sent out. Apparently you neither got it or the answers.
Group.....
Let's try some questions on GRIP.
1.) Is a particular grip and essential.....or a matter of style ?
2.) Try to list some ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES of these grips:
a,) Forefinger on top grip.
b.) Thumb on top grip.
c.) The"free -wrist-grip".
d.) The "three point grip"
e.) The " V " grip.
f.) The " TLT" grip
g.) The Roman Moser Grip
h.) The" PRIMARY "grip
i.) The Extended Finger Grip.
j) The "WRIST ACTION" grip.
3.) Which of the above grips is (or was) usually used by the following fly casting / fly fishing authors ? :-
a.) Joan Wulff
b.) Lefty Kreh
c.) Gary Borger
d.) Roberty Pragliola
e.) Jason Borger
f.) Doug Swisher
g.) Steve Rajeff
h.) Ed Jaworowski
I.) Ernie Schwiebert
j.) John Alden Knight
k.) Vincent Marinaro
l.) Jim Green
m.) Hugh Falkus
n.) Frank Steel
0.) Charles Ritz
p) Mac Brown
q.) Joe Humphries
r.) Floyd Franke
s.) Bill Gammel
Take your time with this one.....and don't guess.
I don't expect any of us will know all these answers. A quiz like this, if tackled well, will have you breaking out some books and, perhaps, a couple of video tapes......and in the process of learning these items of casting minutia, you willl doubtless learn many other things as well.

Yes, he is. Tom is OK, though. He and his family evacuated to Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Hope you faired OK in the storm and your family and friends are well and safe.
Have found that my membership was not up to date, thanks to Tom White & Tom Jindra who sorted out the mess. Thank goodness it was found as not being much of a pc man I didn?t know.
I really hope now I can get back on the Chat room and start learning again.
My new email is gavin@xxxxxxxxxxx
Cheers
