    Subject: Study suggestions

    Hi, Group....

Something I'd like to pass on regarding ways to study:

Years ago, while studying for our Masters exams, Rick Whorwood and I would spend hours in the skiff asking one another various "exam" questions.  We'd often go with 2 answers, ie. one, "long answer", and a second, "short answer".  We would debate the best ways to come up with the shortest answer possible and still be on target.  Of course, that would take a back seat when we spotted tarpon.......then we'd resume.

I've done this with others over the years, and have learned a great deal that way.  (One time, Bob Andreae and I drove for about 8 hrs. to a conclave.  We posed and answered casting and teaching questions the whole way......covered a lot of territory.)

When I've coached for the MCI exam, once in a while I'll search out a typo or misprint in a flycasting book we're discussing.  I'd then challenged him/her to find it.  Surprising how much more detail would come out of that study !

One study method that I've found MUCH better than grinding through a text, is to have your little library close at hand, then come up with a subject, look it up in several books, and compare the various author's opinions.
