Rod.....
Good idea !........fun, too.
Here's one:
My dad had a way of making a fly work both downstream and upstream on the same, "dead drift".
He would make a cast across stream, then throw a long mend upstream immediately followed by a downstream mend. Worked well, especially when salmon were fished blind. Also worked when fishing in the salt in channels for migrating stripers.
A Spey variation on this theme, is described by Hugh Falkus as, "two way fishing" in his book, SPEY CASTING, A NEW TECHNIQUE.
Let's see if some of the folks in our Group can come up with some others.

To my friends and colleagues: Will you share a couple of your fly fishing ?traditions? with me? I am preparing an article that grew out of an FFF/TU Club presentation titled Seven Successful Strategies for Taking More Trout. One of those strategies is Try Tradition (those ideas handed down from generation to generation).
I spoke to hand-me-downs like: Use a smaller fly, or Fish under, that?s where the trout eat, or Swing a wet fly down and across the stream. At one meeting I asked the audience to form a huddle with the folks seated around them and share their ?traditions?. I heard some great counsel and from that came the idea to publish more ?traditions?.
Have you got a couple of fly fishing traditions you will share with me? They can be ones you have had passed on to you from others or advice you have given to some folks??And may I have your permission to include them in my article? Thank You for your willingness to add value to the fly fishing experience of others.
All the Best Rod
