That business of the concept of, "pushing" and, "pulling" is an important one.

Howdy Gordy and Gang
In the Loop Fall 2005* is a Great Artical on Pulling or Pushing the rod/line
I can see just what this man of Gary's is doing. He is pushing the rod for sure.
This idea is much of what I teach bass or spin casters. The Wrist caster is so
ingrained with using the wrist you can not change them. YOU can change WERE they
break the wrist. At the end of the STROKE.
I have battled this wristing till I was about ready to give up with one older
man. Then it slowly came to me in the middle of the night. Teach him were to make
the wrist movement. Drag the line forward until the hand is in front of the face
THEN close the wrist. Snap close, Power stop, Speed up and Stop. or As Tom White
Teachs close the wrist fast.using just the thumb and first finger to stop from
over rotating the rod.
