Actually that is a good one !
Some of my proudest moments are when my student starts with dismal casting ability, then ends up making casts better than my own. It's the ultimate in controlling instructor ego.
That's the theory behind really good coaching.
Our own Group member, MCI Rod Mcgarry once handed me his card, years ago. On it he had described himself as, FACILITATOR. I never forgot that. (Rod teaches fly casting and coaches it at the LL Bean school in Maine.)
As I've told you before, in the 1976 Olympics , when Nadia Comeneci copped 3 gold medals making the first perfect 10 in the history of olympic gymnastics, her coach couldn't even get up on the balance beam !!! (World Almanac p. 975)
The other side of the coin is that I've been told it is much easier to teach a bear to ride a unicycle, if you have mastered it first.
