Dennis & Mac Just back from Bangor, Maine where CCI Dave Jacobson and I did a BIG thing for FFF at the Penobscot Fly Fishing Show. On Saturday we put rods in the hands of 72 folks and got them casting and we did another 41 on Sunday. They got anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes of casting and coaching. Dennis, we had mostly Category I and II; those Category V?s that snuck in, why we just let get some line in the air on their own. Dave and I laughed about the categories of students those two days.
I had one of those great revelations about you two while I was there. Last week in the examination of our Masters candidates, you two really demonstrated that you had a depth of knowledge about rods. I came away with the impression that you knew them inside out. I handle them, examine them, compare them and read about them, but I have never built one. I decided to get more ?Continuing Education?. At the show I signed up for a two day rod building course in February. Then in March I have every intention of building another rod on my own. I recall Gordy Hill?s admonition about introducing a surgical procedure to the new Doc, ?See one, do one, teach one.? Thanks to good examples like you three, I have some new continuing education going.
When I got into my e-mail today I had notes from Tom Jindra and Tony Vitale asking me to help out with the efforts of a BOG committee on what else but------Continuing Education.
Who was it that said, ?When the right door opens, walk thru it??
