    Yes.  She and Floyd Franke taught me the same thing....especially for accuracy casting.  The squeeze helps prevent a jerky final acceleration to a stop.

    Pain can have an effect in smoothing out the stroke, too.....as I found out when I got back to casting after my hand injury last summer. (If it hurts when you jerk it, that's instant feedback !)

    Howdy Gordy
     Many years ago I was a Joan student. What I remember the most about the lesson was when she placed her hand over mine and told me to squeeze the rod to a stop. "Ouch" what a grip that lady has. YOU can bet I tighten my grip at the stop.
       Some times Pain works well....
