    Gordon;

    Any rod can be loaded through acceleration WITHOUT any line stung up.

     

    The heavier the rod; guides, fiber, thread etc. the more the rod will load under acceleration.

     

    However, the heavier the rod, the less transfer of energy you will attain during the unloading. (efficiency)

     

    We have a tendency to emphasize the line/fly weight during loading, but forget about the mass of the rod itself and the effect of accelerating.  

     

    I think proper acceleration is the most important part of rod loading, as the stop is the most important part of the unloading.
