I think it would apply.
One definition of parallax, from Wikepedia :
"Parallax is a displacement or difference in the apparent position of an object viewed along two different lines of sight, and is measured by the angle or semi-angle of inclination between those two lines."
>From Webster: "Parallax : 1. the apparent displacement of an observed object due to a change in the position of the observer."
One might argue that the observer was still standing out to the side of the caster. However, the observer's position relative to the altered plane of the loop changed by virtue of the casting plane change which, in turn, changed the loop plane.
Taken to the extreme, an observer out to the side might see a 3' loop cast in the strictly horizontal plane as needle sharp with no apparent width at all !
