    Walter & Group...

[GH] Several of failed to receive Internet Clave 9 which was prepared on 10/17/11.  For that reason, I'll re-send it.  My apologies to those who have already received it.

[GH]  Jim Gill comes in with three things he noted were done well with the video demonstrations :

    Gordy, My response if I may;

    1. He looks the part - neat and tidy, setting a good example (role model).
    2. Communicates well with a clear voice - uses no jargon.
    3. Demonstrates often - always referring to the "rod" relating everything he says to what he is coaching.

    Regards, Jim.

    [GH]  From Bob Hansell :

    Gordy,
The three things I noticed that Dennis did well were:
    ·         Spoke slowly and clearly – did not rush or used jargon or hard to understand terms
    ·         Worked on 1 topic only – the grip; no overload of information on everything the instructor knows….
    ·         Gave simple, easy to understand demonstrations of the three grips; Thumb on top, finger on top and the thumb and finger slightly off the top (instead of using terms like the v-grip)
Each were things that Dan can build on to connect with his students.
    Thanks,
    Bob

    [GH]  From Roy Sedge :

    Dear Gordy:

Three things the instructor is doing well:

    1.  He is appropriately dressed for the part and "looks" like an instructor.
    2.  His presentation/style is relaxed.
    3.  He speaks clearly and with confidence.
    4.  The choice of venue is adequate (We often can't control off premises noise).
    5.  Instructor is faced toward the class and looks at the class (except while casting) during the presentation.

    [GH] From Rich Kovars :

    Hello Gordy,

    1.  Appearance is very neat and professional.  He has dressed the part!

    2.  Good eye contact while speaking.

    3.  Speaks in a nice relaxed manner.  He is speaking to his students not at them.

    All the best,

    --Rich

[GH]  Gary Davison weighs in :

    Gordy,

The three things that really make an impression on me as a positive is the following.

General appearance was good. Looked like a professional instructor.

Verbal presentation if directed correctly regarding the subject matter, would be a major plus.

Ability to provide a visual stimulus to the student would be great by his ability to show direction or key points of  vision to the hand positions shown for the grips. Even though this was more than a beginner could absorb. It was good for those above the beginner level of learning.

Eye contact with the student would be good if the set up was different then what was provided.  The instructor was making eye contact with the student.  We just could not see the face due to the shadows.

    All the best
    Gary Davison

    [GH]  Hank Wu observes :

    Hi Gordy,
this is my opinion about which were done well in Dennis' video.

1 Dennis talked about the rod hand should stay in eye level.
I think this is great because most of beginners always raise their elbow to high.

2 He suggested the student use thumb-on-top
this is nature for the beginner, and easy way to learn how to maintain their tracking.

3 He seems  try to explain how fly casting works because he asked the student how fly casting works first
the dynamic of fly casting is quite different from spin casting, so I think to let the student know a little bit about the dynamics of fly casting is important especially for the student who already have some experience of spin casting.

    Cheers
    Hank
