Gordy,
I support all the pre-test points of view so far, but I do slightly disagree with Paul answer below on question # 3 & 4.
As a CCI, I have successfully coached 3 other CI’s through to their certification. After about 6 months of 1 to 2 times per week lessons and practice, I did give a practice test in a manner that the candidate would experience while taking the test. I saw two major benefits of this approach. First, as the mentor (or coach), I was able to see where the candidate was prepared and where he/she was not prepared. Second, it exposed the candidate to the potential rigor of the test.
I do respect what Paul is saying, because prior to an actual test, I do schedule several practice tests with MCI’s so they can access the candidates readiness, and also my ability to coach/teach them. Going through the process allows the candidates to do what Paul advocates; it also benefits the CI’s that coach and teach candidates and improves their skill set. I have also assisted the MCI’s with practice tests which gives the MCI another perspective through the test plus allows the MCI to coach/Teach the CI helping him/her. My belief is this experience improved my skills and the improves the quality of my Master Certification journey.
Thanks,
Bob
