[GH] Let's move forward with questions and comments on Task 2. :
Task 2. Demonstrate a series of casts progressing from the vertical position to the horizontal position. Make two false casts at the vertical and work down in a series of steps to the horizontal position. Each step must have at least two false casts. Casting approximately 40 feet. Ho hauling allowed. Repeat on the opposite side of the body.
Expectations : Narrow loops front and back: loop size approximately 2 feet in height; bi tails; line speed adequate to keep loops in plane and aerialized.

[GH] At the outset, let me try to clarify an issue which was not raised in discussions on Task 1., but which pertains to both Task 1. and Task 2. It also applies to any of the tasks where hauling is not allowed.
The term, "NO HAULING" means just that. Even a very limited haul is not allowed.
This leaves open to interpretation as to whether this also means that the candidate is allowed to hold the line with the line hand at all.
I'm reasonably sure that this will be specifically addressed with clear language on the next version of the MCI exam as part of the effort to make these task descriptions and expectations as clear as possible. One way of doing that would be to specify either NO HAULING or ROD HAND ONLY.
Some candidates, especially salt water fly anglers have a hard time avoiding at least a small haul with almost any of their casts. That can be a problem.
At present, I suggest that to avoid any concern as to whether a haul has been made or not that candidates refrain from even holding the line with the line hand on these "NO HAULING ALLOWED" tasks. We'll discuss a couple of possible exceptions when we get to tasks which require line length changes.
